For the past 30 years, Andrea V. Uravitch has lived in Northern Virginia, exploring the themes of nature in her sculptures. They have taken the form of animals, insects, birds, fish and vegetation, as well as components of the human image. She has constructed them using a variety of techniques (croché, sewing, welding, painting, ceramics) as well as materials (fiber, fabric, clay, steel, wire, paint, paper glass, wood and photos). Her images have been both singular and multiple. Often they are created to provoke a reaction. For the past ten years she has been exhibiting large installations that transform rooms into natural environments. These have been constructed at the Arlington County Court House, Washington Square in DC, the Melon Bank Metro Stop in Pittsburgh, PA, the Arlington Art Center, the University of Richmond Museum's Lara Robbins Gallery.
