Karl Schrag prints & drawings at Jane Haslem Gallery Karl Schrag. German/American, 1912-1995

"There was and always will be the haunting spell of the great joys and the great pains of all creation. I wished to reveal my thoughts and feelings about the world I live in and about myself. Through my work, I hoped to share these feelings with others. Description was not enough; I had to find the means to make visible the spirit of a place, of rain and wind, the sensation of fragrances or the deeper meaning of a face or a gesture. In recent years, I have in my prints striven for a reduction in technical procedures to reach simpler, stronger forms of expression."
Phyllis Seltzer prints & drawings at Jane Haslem Gallery Phyllis Seltzer. American, born 1928

Seltzer's printmaking methods are contemporary in their use of technology, and her working methods explore the full potential of her media. The understanding coming out of her experience is what makes fine prints in every sense of those words.
Moishe Smith prints & drawings at Jane Haslem Gallery Moishe Smith. American, 1929-1993

"The prints of Moishe Smith are exceptionally personal statements, acknowledging a tradition of masterful printmaking, but commenting with freshness and individuality on the world in a way that deserves our admiration and assent".
Alan Fern, Ph.D
Stephen Tanis prints & drawings at Jane Haslem Gallery   Stephen Tanis. American, born 1945

It has to do with trying to evoke responses that are rich, tactile, and sensual. A mix of experience associations as well as veiled metaphors. Consciousness is the translation of each sense into the other.
Beth Van Hoesen prints & drawings at Jane Haslem Gallery Beth Van Hoesen. American, 1926 - 2010

"Van Hoesen prefers to see and feel, not to analyze. Political turbulence, social injustices, and pathetic imagery do not belong to her celebrations. Van Hoesens' purpose is clear to herself - a desire to observe and describe choice, transitory elements of the world." Richard Lorenz

Richard Ziemann prints & drawings at Jane Haslem Gallery Richard Ziemann. American, born 1932

"I have a romantic attachment to landscape and feel a sense of exhilaration when viewing the interior of woods, fields of grass, the forest floor, flowers and foliage. I work directly in the landscape experiencing the play of light and daily atmospheric changes along with form and textural variety of the seasons. Nature, with its combination of serenity and wildness, is an inexhaustible visual source for my work."
