SWING
Printed on BFK paper, "Swing" is the first silkscreen I printed after switching to water-based inks, Hunt-Speedball's nontoxic Permanent Acrylic Screen Printing Inks (and Transparent Base). I had been printing with oil-based inks for 15 years and couldn't stand the fumes anymore.
"Swing" is of a little porch I saw in Front Royal, Virginia. I painted a watercolor sketch from my reference photo, and traced parts of the watercolor onto the screen to hand-paint each of the 23 silkscreen stencils--relatively few layers because it is a small-scale, simple image. Using the watercolor rather than a careful master drawing gives this image a looser look than many of my other silk screens.
