3.1 Refers to Cumae in the Greek story. The drawing of the bird skulls were made from a hummingbird skull collected by the artist's great, grandfather.

3.2 This is about nature. It has recurring themes such as the thread represented by knitting. The leaf refers to assignments the artist gave while teaching. The leaf teaches about observation and process of taking an object to form a generic symbolic form.



3.3 References here are to the thread of Ariadne and language. The numbers on the Japanese spool are easily read by most of the world but the characters are a more selected maze of knowledge.



3.4 Primarily about math and time, this image also has two recurrent themes, the cosmos and the thread but as a woven fabric in this case.
